We're Ready To See You!

Dr. Ike House, Dr. Brittany House, and Dr. Reuben House make a commitment to serve each patient’s dental care needs with the time that quality care requires. Regular six month dental check-ups and cleanings are one hour appointments for everyone, except small children who require shorter visits. Regular check-ups ensure that your teeth and gums are kept healthy and that any problems can be addressed promptly before they become more extensive and more expensive to treat.

Based on the time required for procedures that need to be performed, both doctors schedule restorative and cosmetic dental treatments by appointment following one’s regular check-ups and examinations. These appointments are reserved exclusively for you by making a deposit toward your treatment. Emergencies can occur at any time, and every effort will be made to see you as soon as possible when your emergency arises.
Appointments can be made by calling (318) 949-9878.

Because both your time and that of Dr. Ike House, Dr. Brittany House, Dr. Reuben House, and their staff is important, 24-48 hour notice of cancellation of appointments is required, and most appointments are reserved by making a deposit toward your treatment.

ARTIFICIAL JOINT OR HEART PATIENT?

Your mouth holds bacteria, and during cleanings, this bacteria may enter the bloodstream. After entering the bloodstream, the bacteria may adhere, or "stick", to artificial joints or defects in the bloodstream, where they can grow and cause an infection, called infective endocarditis. Antibiotic prophylaxis is a large dosage of antibiotic taken at one time to help prevent infection of the joints and tissues in susceptible patients during the time of bacterial exposure.

The American Heart Association updates guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis (premedication) based on results from extensive studies. Currently, patients that the AHA suggests premedication for are those that have total joint replacement, a history of infective endocarditis, and may extend to patients with congenital heart defects.

If you have a joint replacement or have had heart surgery, your general physician may have ordered antibiotic prophylaxis (premedication) before dental appointments. This is recommended for all dental procedures that involve manipulation of the gingival tissue (gums), periapical (root) region of the teeth, or perforation of the gingival tissue. Your gums may be manipulated especially during cleanings, large fillings, during removal of teeth, and gum surgery.

Patients that previously were recommended to premedicate before dental appointments, but not recommended under the current guidelines are: mitral valve prolapse, rheumatic heart disease, bicuspid valve disease, calcified aortic stenosis, and some congenital heart defects.

Because each patient is individual, your physician may recommend antibiotic prophylaxis regardless of the AHA guidelines. In each case, we call and check with your physician about what he or she would like you to do. If you have any questions about this topic, please don't hesitate to call us at (318) 949-9878.
